Jason banal is a writer, artist, independent curator and lecturer who lives and works in Manila and London. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in film at the University of Philippines, Manila, and magisted at Goldsmith College, University of London. His works have been exhibited in various international art event, among others: No Soul for Sale (Tate Modern, London); Courtauld Institute of Art, London; IFA Gallery, Berlin; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Tate Britain; Lopez Museum, Manila; Belief, Singapore Biennale, and Oslo Kunsthall. Besides active as an artist he is a columnist for The Philippine Star daily and taught as an assistant professor at the University of the Philippines Film Institute, while serving as head UPFI Film Center in Manila. As an artist, Jason works explore a variety of idioms, including video, performance, photography, installations, drawings, writings and objects of the meeting. In the creative process he mixed a lot of folklore, popular culture, the subconscious and music. For example, in his work Untitled / Again (Marienbad / Jakarta, 2009) are shown in the Jakarta Biennale, Fluid Zones, the National Gallery of Indonesia, he collaborated with the band’s hardcore grin and models who pose while taking sleeping pills and wine.

Jason is a guest artist at the artist residency program in PLATFORM3. During the 10 days doing research on Bandung for a new photography series. He is interested in observing the underground music community and youth culture in Bandung. He also directs the two-day workshop limited to student participants FSRD intermedia from ITB Bandung and several video artists. The workshop was held on 13 and 14 October in PLATFORM3.
