PLATFORM3 proudly present “Chance –Interactive Performance Project” By Marco Cassani.

Human and their behaviour have always been central to the work of Marco Cassani. In his previous projects these two elements have always been the object of his work. In Animula Vagula Blandula, he took a physical and psychological journey, going profoundly into the man, to the place before birth and expressed the human aspects he has encountered during his voyage into paintings. With White Mud Babes project he looked into a social problem of mud disaster, interrelated it with fragile female bodies then he represented the body and its ‘virtual’ dimensions.
In CHANCE project, the public and its unpredictable behaviours become both the subject and the object of the artwork. The public is the subject who takes decision and performs actions in a situation created by the artist: an installation of 200 sculptures in a form of his own head with an invitation to destroy them. The performance is recorded with surveillance cameras at all time and is broadcasted in real time through the Internet, giving a possibility of a wider audience by breaking the border of a physical gallery. The public’s performance of destroying ‘the artist figure’ represents the possibility of obliteration of the sacredness of artist and artwork and becomes the object of study of the artist.
This performance is the beginning of a dialogue, not the end result. As Claire Bishop stated in her book Artificial Hells about participatory art: “What matters are the ideas, experiences and possibilities that result from these interactions.” – Marco Cassani. 2012
Press Release
The Chance project is not an installation of objects. It is rather a happening. Cassani casted his own head become a lot of sculputure that will be displayed in the floor. The display of these sculptures will be finished by the public’s action. This installation invites people to step on it, to act, to be a part of it. The whole process is recorded with surveillance cameras at all time and is broadcasted in real time through the Internet, giving a possibility of a wider audience by breaking the border of a physical gallery.
In this project, the public becomes, at the same time, the role of subject and object. It is the subject because it is the one who chooses to perform an action and to excercise it. It is the object because its action is studied by the artist.
Marco Cassani was born in Milan, Italy, in 1981. He studied painting at Brera Academy of Art in Milan, and graduated in 2006. Since 2009, Cassani works and lives in Bali and Milan. His last solo exhibition was “White Mud Babes” at Galeri Semarang, Indonesia, in 2011. Human and their behaviour have always been central to the work of Marco Cassani.

PLATFORM3 dengan bangga mempersempahkan “Chance –Interactive Performance Project” By Marco Cassani.
Proyek “Chance” bukanlah semata instalasi objek, melainkan sebuah peristiwa.
