Project No 6

Monument. Memory by Mimi Fadmi

30 May – 13 June 2010

This exhibition departed from sensory experiences related to me and my dad’s face Dutch colonialism in Indonesia. Single face pinning all vices of colonialism on the colonizers, while the colonized are victims.

Then there any positive vibrations from colonialism Dutch in Indonesia? My work on this project gave positive feedback about the vibration. There are three approaches used. First, I borrowed my father’s eyes through the camera shots are stored in old photo albums. Second, my sensory experiences during my residency as a guest artist in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Third, an imaginary meeting in the same space between me and my dad in my hometown. All of these approaches is essentially a nostalgic approach involves a shift in cultural values and the ecology is going on. “
