Taxonomy of the Other (Taxonomi sang Liyan)

In the history of colonization, the land of the colony is the object of stares and classification. Nation entrants using a variety of scientific excuse to make many forms of life (plants, humans, animals) colony as a realm of special studies. Colony life drawn, recorded and narrated by the point of view of immigrants. Taxonomy of us, as well as all kinds of understanding that we practiced to this day, in other words, inseparable from what they write in the past.

J. Ariadhitya Pramuhendra, Bandung artists who had been interested in called religious matters, during the last few months of intense studying the images produced in the colonial period, especially when the nation European settlers began to make the identification of local plants and animals. Art project this time, the taxonomic Liyan, may be compared as a double-edged knife. On the first hand he is the answer or response to colonial taxonomy, but on the other hand, he also slipped his commentary on the various metaphors / symbols flora-fauna which he discovered in the Bible. Liyan’s Taxonomy into question the artistic project colonization and religion, as well as hidden relationships within it.
